Our Family and Hotel History

History

Established in 1982, the Royal Pets Hotel chose the rolling hills of Oro Medonte as its home after an extensive coast-to-coast search for the ideal “Royal” location.

Our original founders, Lester and Rosie, spent decades running and subsequently owning/operating their own pet lodging business in England before coming to Canada with a vision to reinvent pet facilities in North America. It was a simple vision: unrivalled luxury, and both accessible to the larger centres of Ontario, but capitalizing on the gorgeous Canadian Countryside.

After 26 years at the helm of the Royal Pets Hotel, Rosie and Lester chose a well deserved retirement, bidding a fond adieu to life in Oro Medonte, and handing off the reins to the hotel’s current owners and operators.

Present and Future

In 2008 our present family of caretakers took over Royal Pets, and “The Royal Pets Hotel and Spa” evolved. Our present caregiving team comes from the world of medicine (both people and pets), the British Military and quality management.

After having also moved from England, we discovered a lack of accommodations for our pets that were of the standards we had grown accustomed to… that is, of course, until we moved to central Ontario and discovered the Royal Pets Hotel!

As customers of the hotel, we grew to truly love and appreciate the place as a calming retreat for both our cats and dogs, allowing us the freedom and ability to make activity, lifestyle and travel choices not always available to us with our furry family members in tow. The hotel’s quality facilities provided us with the ability to vacation guilt-free, knowing our pets were in the very best of hands.

When we became aware of the retirement of our predecessors it was like a dream come true for our family. Having been on the opposite side of the reception desk for many a decade, we felt we truly understood the needs of today's family pets and their parents. We were able to realize our dream of a family business in pet care, for us and our children.

Moving forward, our focus is on continuing to raise the bar in our industry and maintaining the highest possible standards of pet care and accommodation.

Superior Care

We now maintain the highest staffing levels and standards anywhere in Ontario. All of our caregivers are pet parents themselves, and most actually came to us having been family members of a Royal Pet Guest. In addition to training as a pet caregiver, everyone on our team comes to us having spent time in the employ of a veterinary clinic. We have Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, Veterinary students, Groomers, and former Vet Clinic co-op students as our caregiving team. The benefit of this is the highest safety standards for your pet and peace of mind for you and your family.
